Blackberry season just started in Tokyo

Posted on July 15, 2011

I have been trying to keep an eye on my neighbour’s blackberry vine ever since the little green baby berries appeared and my neighbour gave me permission to pick off the berries from the higher up branches when they become ripe. Well, it’s blackberry season in Tokyo and I had a delicious snack during a morning stroll yesterday. Blackberries are a rare sight in Tokyo. This is actually the first time I have ever seen someone growing them. I really think that more people should plant them since, despite the lack of space, they are growing like crazy. I don’t know where this particular vine came from, but it’s different from the wild Washington state variety because it has no sharp thorns. Delicious berries, easy to grow, pain-free. Prefect!
